My journey

I discovered blogs about a year ago and was immediately addicted. Each morning, after driving "my people" to school, I would pour a second cup of coffee and settle in to check out what was happening in the blog world that day. 10 minutes quickly turned into 20 and my poor old chocolate lab was waiting longer and longer each morning for his walk. Throughout the year, I would photograph objects, scenes, etc. and announce to my family that "this was for my blog." I was determined before 2010 drew to a close to make my blog a reality and so, with just 17 days left in the year, here goes...

December 15 - The First Post

My husband, three children and I live in this stone cottage in Darien, CT.  We lovingly renovated it almost 3 years ago, doubling the size of the original house while retaining its most unique features.  We worked with a gifted architect from Fairfield, CT named Paulo Vicente (vbarchitect.com).

Some of the new additions include this breakfast room (currently the study area of my 15 year old son).

A beautiful butler's pantry in what had been the former galley kitchen.

A gorgeous dining room with cerused oak ceiling and fabulous Oly chandeliers.  We removed a small unused bedroom to have the dining room run from the front of the house to the back and added the french doors with custom balcony.

Our family room.  The couch faces a large stone fireplace with a tv to one side.

The kitchen - large island with seating on one side.  The lights and ceiling treatments are just one of Paulo's many brilliant ideas.

Master bath - this tub has gotten lots of play in the design world.  Ours is a fiberglass version and not only looks beautiful but is such a great place to unwind after a long day.  Any one putting in a new bathroom should only consider heated floors! What a treat.

My fancy powder room.  Continued the cerused oak from the dining room, onyx vanity and lots of small onyx mosaic tiles.

Back stair hall leading from the family room/mud room entrance up to a new master bedroom and bedroom with bath for one of my 13 year old daughters.

These pictures were taken in the fall following the finished construction.  Although we were lucky to have some furniture in place, many of the little touches that make a house a home have occurred over the past two years.  Vignettes to follow - who doesn't love a good tablescape!!
